• Acronym Finder Provided by Mountain Data Systems, this site offers a searchable database containing over 60,000 acronyms/abbreviations and their meanings. The focus of the database is technology, telecommunications, and the military (perhaps because of the acronym-intensity of these fields), but many general topics are included, as well. Users can also search for acronyms related to a particular word or topic using the advanced search function. Search tips are provided. [MD]
• ADAM, the Art, Design, Architecture & Media Information Gateway "ADAM, the Art, Design, Architecture & Media Information Gateway, is a searchable catalogue of 2546 Internet resources that have been carefully selected and catalogued by professional librarians for the benefit of the UK Higher Education community."
• AgDB The National Agricultural Library's Directory of Agriculture-Related Databases, Datasets, and Information Systems, otherwise known as AgDB, was a prototype project when we first reviewed it. In the intervening years, it has graduated from the prototype stage and now offers links to more than 1,000 information resources. Users can browse all of the AgDB metadata records through an alphabetical list arranged by resource name and search their full text with a keyword index and by AGRICOLA Subject Category Code. New metadata record additions can be traced via the What's New page. [MD]
• Agrimine [.pdf].  Created with the European agribusiness industry in mind, this site will also prove useful to researchers and other users studying agriculture and business. Presented in both English and French, the front page offers numerous links to breaking agriculture stories around the world, a what's new listing, and links to the site's five Agrifiles. The Agrifiles provide links to both full-text reports (some in .pdf format) and related sites in the fields of Biotechnology, Marketing, Food Safety, Precision Farming, and Agricultural Policy. Other resources at the site include links to prices, analyses, and statistics from international commodity markets; a European weather overview; an event notebook; and links to selected databases. • BUBL 5:15 A product of the Andersonian Library, Strathclyde University (UK), BUBL Link, the well known Dewey Decimal Classification Internet Guide has recently unveiled this site, which provides Link's contents via subject access; between five and fifteen quality resources for each of over 1,100 subjects. Resources are divided into eleven broad sections, and are accessible through large pull down menus within each of those sections. Descriptive information is available for each resource. For those who prefer subject to classified organization, BUBL 5:15 provides a quick and intuitive interface to a large number of quality resources. [JS]

• Companies Online--Dun & Bradstreet and Lycos Dun and Bradstreet, the business information provider, along with the Internet search directory Lycos, has made available this database containing cursory information on over 60,000 public and private US companies with web sites. The quantity of the database is more important at this site than the amount of data available about each site (which is rather scanty, even for the enhanced registered user's retrieval). There are several search options, but the main feature of the site is a hyptertext connection(s) to each retrieved company.
• Congress on the Internet 1995 began with a bang, as the January 13 Scout Report announced the opening of Thomas, the US Library of Congress legislative information service that has become, quite simply, the largest disseminator of national legislative information in the world. Among its offerings are bill summaries & status, full text of bills, major legislation enacted into law, the Congressional Record and CR Index, Congressional Committee information, Congressional directory information, information about the legislative process, and a selection of historical documents.

A joint venture by the US Forest Service and the University of Georgia, Forestry Images holds nearly 4,500 color .jpeg images of forest plants, insects, silvicultural practices, invasive organisms, and general natural scenes. Each image page includes a catalog number, Latin and vernacular nomenclature, and photographer's name. Images can be viewed and downloaded in a variety of sizes, but only registered members can access images with a resolution of 1536x1024 pixels or above (registration is free). • Inchem  IPCS INCHEM consolidates a wide variety of information produced by a number of international bodies whose goal is to assist in the sound management of chemicals.  IPCS INCHEM provides a means of rapid access to information on chemicals commonly used throughout the world, which may also occur as contaminants in the environment and food.
• INVADERS Database Based at the University of Montana and directed by Dr. Peter Rice, the INVADERS Database is "a comprehensive database of exotic plant

names and weed distribution records for five states in the northwestern United States." Designed for use by land management and weed regulatory agencies, INVADERS uses a query interface (plant name or location) to sort and display information.
• Internet Public Library Online Text Enhancements The well known Internet Public Library has recently revised its online texts collection (a beta revision) to make it available for searching and browsing by author, title, and Dewey Classification. The significance of this enhancement lies in the way the site is organized. Here is an actual "book" library, arranged in ways that users can quickly make sense of. Each entry is accompanied by bibliographic information, including title, author, date, Dewey Classification(s), and hypertext URL(s). There is an interesting, though not yet perfected, feature that allows users to link to similar works. A key feature is the listing of books under multiple classifications; one of the prime advantages of a virtual book collection, it dramatically improves access. At present, the library contains pointers to over 3,400 books.
• Jane's Internet Defense Glossary Jane's Information Group, well-known publisher of defense and aerospace information, provides this handy, no-nonsense glossary of over 20,000 pertinent acronyms and abbreviations. The glossary is both browseable and searchable by acronym or definition. [JS]

• Photovoltaic Energy--Electricity From Sunlight--Bibliography The US Department of Energy has recently opened this web site, a searchable and browsable collection of "hypertext bibliographic citations of current worldwide information available on all aspects of photovoltaic amorphous technology, polycrystalline thin films, gallium arsenide, crystalline silicon, concentrator technology, and systems research."

Launched on Monday, PSIgate is the physical sciences hub for the UK's Resource Discovery Network (RDN). From this page, users can search the PSIgate database, search an expanded catalog (PSIgate+) generated by harvesting pages from the PSIgate database, or search across RDN databases. Returns include resources focused on astronomy, chemistry, earth sciences, physics, history of science, and more. In the future, PSIgate plans to launch a current awareness service. engines. The indexed search engines are organized in over 60
categories, and individual engine entries indicate date added and
number of hits from the Searchpower site. Some also include brief
annotations. While a few notable specialized search engines are not
listed, the site does seem to be updated on an almost-daily basis. A
